In the final collaboration with Amazon Music’s Chris Koegan, Rosie was invited to orchestrate the exceptionally beautiful and emotionally charged track, ’Spirit Boy’ for Gang of Youths.
The orchestration was filmed and recorded at Air Studios, London.
‘I have been given some incredible opportunities over the last year, to add orchestral arrangements to some really great songs, with bands as diverse as The Architects, London Grammar, Wolf Alice and Gang of Youths to name but a few.
Working with Gang of Youths on the recording of this new orchestral version was a dream! Not only are they the most incredible musicians but they are some of the loveliest humans on the planet.
I couldn’t have wished for a better project to end the year!
Total Entertainment:
Already a moving paean to frontman Dave Le’aupepe’s late father, the emotional majesty of this new version of ‘spirit boy’ is elevated by the band’s collaboration with lead orchestrator Rosie Danvers, whose previous credits include Adele, Coldplay and Kanye West. Building upwards from the plaintive sorrow of Le’aupepe’s opening words, their stately strings and beautifully beguiling brass accentuate the song’s cathartic release. It’s an accomapiment that dramatically enhances the song’s whole-hearted final flourish after Le’aupepe sings, “I wanna live like it’s worth something in time, I gotta give it time.”
